    A rocky Christmas

Hi.  My name is Conner.  I am a really cute (if I may say so) fawn Doberman puppy.  Susan is out of town visiting her parents, so she asked me to write a blog entry tonight.  Here is my picture:

I was a little sedated before this picture, so I look a little drowsy.

    I’ve had an interesting Christmas.

My humans accidentally spilled some Christmas turkey and the juice in the driveway.  They didn’t think too much about it.  But I did!  I went outside, and I smelled and saw that turkey, and boy, it was yummy!!  It was sort of hard to lick up every little drop, so to get every last morsal, I ate the other stuff in the driveway – little pieces of really hard stuff.   I couldn’t chew the hard stuff up, but the pieces were small enough I could swallow them.  I sort of had to eat a lot of them to get every last bit of turkey juice, but I did.  Mmmm, mmmm.

Only a little while later, I started not feeling so good.  My stomach hurt!  Then I started vomiting.  Oh, that didn’t feel too good – it’s never fun to get sick on Christmas.  I vomited some of the little hard pieces.  Then I started having diarrhea, and some of the little hard things came out that way too.  Oh, I was really starting to feel bad – maybe getting that Christmas turkey was not such a good idea!!

My humans saw I was not feeling good and they took me to some people with white coats and needles (I don’t like the needles).  They took some funny pictures of my insides.

The white coat humans gasped when they saw all the bright white things in my stomach, and then they laughed a little too – telling me I had been a silly pup to eat those hard things.  They told my humans I was going to need surgery.  At this point, I was feeling so bad, I decided I would let them – anything to make my stomach stop hurting.

The white coat humans put a needle in my arm, and gave me drugs to make me sleep.  Then they opened my stomach and took the hard things out (and can you believe it – they actually took pictures of my insides while they were doing this!!  But I was sleeping, so I didn't mind.)

Here is me (very drowsy on my pain medications) and the hard stuff they took out of me.

That's a lot of hard stuff!  And what's the deal with that silly cone on my head?!

I still have a little diarrhea, but I’m feeling much better now.  I hope I remember to stay away from that hard stuff!  But oh, that turkey was good!

PS.  Susan wanted me to tell you that the little Pug in her last entry is feeling much better now, but he still needs lots of care to help him with his condition.

That is so great for Connor.  Being the owner of two dogs (one who LOVES to eat anything he can get his hands on), I know the struggles that come along with foreign object removal.  The swallower, is my lab shepherd mix Porter, I also have a JRT Peanut.  Between the two dog we have had three major surgeries in two years.  Along with the foreign object Porter was alergic to the soap we boathed him with which got in his eye and caused a huge hassel (including a eye sewn shut for 6 weeks).  Peanut was attacked by a larger breed when I was walking her, and she had to have some rectal reconstruction.  I guess what I am trying to say is although you never want these things to happen they seem to when you are a animal lover, and the people who help owners out (regular vet or EMT) are loved more then anyone can ever tell you when a pet is delivered back to the owner.  Thank you so much for such a great blog, it definately makes me see that LOTS of people have pet problems like I do.

Our crazy old dog ate EVERYTHING imaginable! Towels, underwear (not chewed on, ATE, SWALLOWED), an entire chicken breast swallowed whole--(thought sure she'd die, choke, or be in surgery, but she didn't!), 1/2 a roll of pennies that Coke had spilled on (they did come out in a neat, even, shiny little "roll"), even ATE an electric razor once! All that was left was the "blade head" & a couple of springs!
But, she incredibly lived to be almost 17 years old!
She DID die of cancer 3 years ago....maybe something she ate?

Isabella! So sorry it's been so long - I don't mean to be causing you withdrawl! I am trying to get a post up tonight, and hopefully another one in a day or two.

Zach the Dog: I'm sure Conner appreciates the advice from you - hopefully his parents passed it on to him.

    Happy New Year, everyone!

Dude - when we're little we do crazy things - I've eaten strange things too but luckily they didn't get stuck like yours did. I'm better now that I'm one year old so you will learn too! Those cones stink - my humans rolled tea towels around my neck when I had surgery - I looked like a head coming out of a donut. But they said most infections come from us licking ourselves - geez. Hey -at least you'll get lots of lap time now. Just whine and sound miserable - works every time!

Conner is a pretty pup! I love your site. I am an animal lover too. So much so that some people may think I'm crazy...I can't even bring myself to kill a bug, even spiders...and I can't stand spiders but to me that's no reason to kill them. You do a wonderful job! I hope you don't mind if I add your space to my blog list? Take care and keep up the good work!

Connor you sure are a beautiful dog, and lucky too! I'm glad you have good owners who saw that you weren't feeling well and took you to see the nice humans in white coats! Next time, stay away from the gravel. As you found out, its not good for dogs or very tasty!

    Feel better!

We are Conner's owners. The hard things are pieces of gravel. We hear he is doing better and will be able to take him home today. Oh, he is a fawn Doberman not a blue. We actually have his brother Cooper also who is a blue Doberman. We would also like to say a very big THANK YOU to everyone who helped take care of Conner!
